ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I am a writer who is concerned with how I am feeling. I use “I” a lot in my poems. I write because it is the only place where I get to be self indulgent. I think for me it is more fun to be able to write like that. All my poems are working through my emotions. I consider it to be a therapeutic experience. I want to write about what I love and lose and how and why. I write about the people in my life because I love them. I’m concerned with love, when it is missing or currently happening this is the thread between all of my writing. I also really like the sky.

Victoria Mbabazi is a Rwandese Canadian writer currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Their work can be found in The Puritan, CV2, No Contact, Rejection Letters, Untethered Magazine, Grain, Minola Review, Peach Magazine, Maisonneuve and elsewhere. They received a Best of Net Nom for their poem “My Gender Is Whatever Song Is Playing” which appeared in No Contact. Their poem “Medusa Smile” placed second in The Hart House Review contest and their work has been shortlisted in Plenitude’s Flash Fiction contest and long-listed in Room’s Poetry contest. chapbook is out with Anstruther Press and FLIP is available with Knife Fork Books.
